The ‘Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire’ (EDA-Q) is a measure designed to quantify traits of extreme/‘pathological’ demand avoidance in children aged 5-17, on the basis of parent or teacher-report. The questionnaire was developed to ensure that PDA traits were being measured in a consistent way for research purposes.

The ‘Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire’ (EDA-Q) was developed to measure behaviours reported in clinical accounts of extreme/‘pathological’ demand avoidance (PDA). New Research Liz O’Nions (who developed the EDA-Q – Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire) is undertaking some new research. PDA isn’t mentioned explicitly in the study materials, partly because they’re hoping to recruit a broader sample who score across a range of related traits. ASD plus disruptive behaviour; score on the EDA-Q was significantly higher in PDA than all comparison groups. ROC analysis indicated good sensitivity (.80) and specificity (.85). Across all case groups, females scored higher than males on the EDA-Q.

My first suggestion to anyone who is not sure if their child, or a child they work with, could be diagnosed with PDA, is to complete the EDA-Q (Extreme Demand Avoidance questionnaire) which can be found on the PDA Society website. It's not a diagnostic tool but it is a good starting point to understanding more.
